- Are we in for a venture funding reset? In COMMUNITY NEWS·July 13, 2022So CB Insights just dropped their State of Venture Q2’22 Report today. It’s 329 pages (you read that right) of charts + analysis. Get it here. So what happened? For the second straight quarter, venture funding fell more than 20%. Deals dropped 15% from Q1, marking the biggest quarterly percentage decrease in a decade. Investors pulled back on the biggest deals (average global deal size has dropped by $5M in 2022 so far) as the fallout in the public markets hits startup land. New unicorn births have fallen off 43% from last year’s peak. But globally, startups are still raking in the cash: Q2’s $108.5B in venture funding is higher than any quarterly total before 2021. So where are the bright spots? On the up: Funding to startups in Africa is on track to hit a new annual record. Smooth(er) sailing: Europe was resilient. Startups on the continent only saw a 13% dip in funding QoQ vs. major regions like the US and Asia, which saw a 25% drop each. In the wings: Median deal size was up by $1M from 2021 for angel investors, the only investor group to see positive change in 2022 so far. See more in the full report — including the quarter’s top investors, valuation data, and deal/funding breakdowns across every major US metro and startup market globally. #investors #insights6183

- What’s Up With Serverless? In TOOLS + TRICKS·November 15, 2022Every new app should start serverless. When we built Adobe Creative Cloud, we had a ton of servers running on a fleet of custom linux vms. We had fleet management, custom auto-scaling, load tests before every new service deploy, custom Jenkins CI/CD, the works. But most companies aren't Adobe, and can't afford to employ the horde of developers who had to come together to make that happen. Today, you can get all the same benefits with a simple CLI tool. Type `npm install -g vercel`, `npx create-next-app`, and `vercel` at a command prompt, and you'll have your first serverless app deployed in minutes. Serverless gives you: * Reduced operational costs * Increased developer productivity * Increased reliability Serverless doesn’t mean “no servers,” but you don’t need to manage servers because your APIs are granular cloud functions managed by your cloud provider. No more worrying about Node, Apache, or HAProxy on Docker containers. Need something special? There are API service providers for just about everything, and they're usually better than your in-house crew because they're specialists dedicated to building tools. - The most active VC investors have not slowed down regardless of the marketIn COMMUNITY NEWS·August 1, 2022The most active VC investors in the industry have not slowed down regardless of the market, according to a recent report. The investment numbers from certain VC firms in 2022 match their 2021 numbers. More: According to the Crunchbase report, the cohort of 40 VC firms matched their investment number from 2021, even though they had increased investments by 50% during that year. Investments in new startups in 2022 stand at 55%, an increase compared to the 50% VCs invested in 2021. The only statistics that are in line with the current market downturn are the overall amount of dollars invested and Series C investments. Series A investments, however, have increased. The report claims that, unlike the 2008 financial crisis, VC investments are not slowing down, and therefore the industry is not mirroring the investment pace post-2008. Source: Inside3423
- Will AI replace HI (human intelligence)? In COMMUNITY NEWS·February 23, 2023Let's face it, the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) has been driving headlines for years. Many people are concerned that AI will eventually, replace human intelligence, leading to a massive loss of jobs and a bleak future. However, the truth is that AI will not replace human intelligence, but rather augment it. The real excitement lies in the potential of AI to enhance human creativity, streamline processes, and even save lives. While the fear of AI replacing humans is understandable, it's important to remember that AI is not some futuristic technology that's going to take over the world. It's a tool that is already being used in a variety of ways to help us make more informed decisions, save time, and do things that were once impossible. One example of AI augmenting human intelligence can be found in the medical field. AI is being used to analyze large amounts of patient data, helping doctors to make more accurate diagnoses and provide better treatment options. A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that an AI algorithm was able to diagnose diabetic retinopathy with 90.3% accuracy, compared to just 87% accuracy by human doctors. Another example can be found in the financial industry, where AI is being used to analyze large amounts of financial data to help traders make more informed investment decisions. In a study published in the journal Nature, an AI system was able to predict changes in the stock market with an accuracy rate of up to 86%. But the real excitement lies in the potential of AI to enhance human creativity. AI is already being used to create music, art, and even literature. For example, a recent AI-generated painting sold for $432,500 at auction. The painting was created by a machine learning algorithm that was trained on a database of artwork. The result was a one-of-a-kind painting that would have been impossible to create without the help of AI. The possibilities for AI are endless. For example, it's being used to help farmers optimize their crop yields, and it's being used in the automotive industry to create self-driving cars. The future is bright for those who embrace the power of AI, and the possibilities are endless. So what can you do to prepare for the future of AI? 1. Learn more about AI: Take some time to read up on what AI is and how it works. This will help you understand the potential of the technology and how it can help you in your life or career. 2. Embrace AI in your workplace: If you work in an industry that is already using AI, be open to learning more about it and how it can help you in your job. Don't be afraid to ask your employer for training or resources to help you learn more about AI. 3. Stay up to date on AI trends: AI is constantly evolving, so it's important to stay up to date on the latest trends and developments. Follow industry leaders on social media and attend conferences or events to stay in the loop. 4. Develop new skills: As AI continues to grow, it's likely that some jobs will become automated. To stay competitive in the job market, consider developing new skills that are less likely to be replaced by AI, such as creativity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence. The future of AI is exciting, and it's important to remember that it's not here to replace human intelligence but to augment it. With the right mindset and preparation, we can take advantage of the power of AI to create a better future for ourselves and the world. So will you embrace the potential of AI and see where it takes us? .... oh and yes, in case your wondering this was drafted by AI and edited by HI (human intelligence).3145
